We’re Retired!
March 16th, 2018 was our last day of work as Julie and I have begun our retirement adventure. We’re out of our house and on the road.
In 2007 we visited Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado. This is a wonderful park that provides a fantastic window into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people that lived here starting around 600 AD. The authentic nature of the park meant that you climbed rough-hewn wooden ladders and in some places, navigated through tunnels carved into the rock. Several older visitors (close to our age now) were challenged to navigate and experience the entire site. As a result, that was the day we made the decision to step up our travel plans and ensure we got to see as much of the world as we could. We also wanted to do that while we were still ‘young’ and healthy!
Moving Ahead
We traveled extensively in that next decade before retiring. Now we have the time to take on some of the places that need more time to really absorb so we’ve set some goals. Over the next three years, we plan to visit Central America, Australia, New Zealand, the southern portion of South America and Africa. We’re realistic enough to recognize that we need to be flexible in our planning, but at least we have a high-level plan.
We’ve already adjusted our schedule. We found out Costa Rica has a rainy season. The planned spring in Costa Rica was replaced with a month and a half in Spain followed by tromping through eastern Europe for a couple of weeks. Moving forward we expect more destinations and schedules to change as well.
This site will be the portal to our travel experiences as we try and capture the images and document our adventures. We hope you enjoy it.
